Basic Care & Recommended Maintenance

Avoid Damage during the Construction Phase

The construction phase is generally very dangerous to anything of value. Plenty of workers and tradesman come and go to perform their works without much regard for the works of others.

Doors and Windows as natural passage ways for people, material, but also fresh air are hence in danger of being bumped into, misoperated, slammed, or scratched.

Moreover, are the windows and doors permanently exposed to dust, debris, as well as extremely sticky drops of cement, gypsum/skimcoat, or color. Keeping windows and doors open for means of passage or ventilation additionaly exposes the inside of the frames as well as the hardware to this pollution.

We hence recommend:

Installing the windows and doors as late as possible in the process. Ideally, install the windows after the ceiling has been painted, all walls have been primed, and floor tiles have been laid. Built in furniture is often produced on site and generating extreme amounts of dust and color mist, whilst being in need for ventilation. If there is no risk of water intrusion, we would also recommend to install the built-in furniture first.
Cover the bottom profiles/ running tracks. Polishing of floors poses a high risk of scratching or even abrading the frame color whilst obviously producing a lot of dust as well.
Avoid unnecessary operation of doors and windows, e.g. sliding the doors over debris on the track.
Do not use thinner or other hard chemicals on the frames. We recommend turpentine and warm water.
Avoid that workers on site misoperate the windows and doors or leave them open to be slammed by strong winds.
Do not leave any tapes on the frames for prolonged time. Masking tapes should be removed within 2 days of application.

Regular Care

To keep your doors and windows operating smoothly we recommend you to perform:

Regular cleaning of Frames (especially running tracks) from loose debris - ideally with a vaccuum cleaner. Sticky dirt can be cleaned with Turpentine. Regular lubrication of hardware with oil or silcione spray (WD40, Sonax, etc). Regular cleaning of the glass to avoid calcium stains. Do not slam doors and secure against wind. Do not force or use excessive force in case of problems. Follow proper opening procedure for folding doors.
